The Kitty Thing
Chapter 5
specter
Specter only half expected to find his apartment empty. It’s still early, so Kitty might be at work, or still off hanging around somewhere with any number of his friends.
The place is as tidy as always. There’s a half-repaired bot still left out, but that’s the usual state of that table. Rusty, the noisy cleaning bot, is charging on its station, the little screen on its body indicates it was last activated a day ago. The plants look well, and Bug is in sleep mode beside one of the pots.
He expects Kitty to get home anytime soon, so he just does the usual. He sets his pack down on the working table, including his comms unit that has been steadily ringing with notifications now that he’s open for a new job again. If Kitty doesn’t come home with food, or volunteer to cook, Specter will just have to make an errand out of grabbing a quick dinner somewhere close by.
He is taking his jacket off when he hears the tell-tale beep of the door’s digital lock, followed the click of the manual one.
He hears Kitty’s voice, sounding distant, curious – “But how do you know he’s home? He hasn’t messaged me or anything…”
That is followed by another familiar voice – “Just trust me, he’s already there.” There’s a chuckle. Of course, Edge is here somehow. “I wouldn’t drop you off if you didn’t have-“
“Ah! He is!” Kitty says, now cheerful. He hears the sound of the door closing. “Hi, boss! Welcome back!”
“Hey-” Specter starts to greet back in his usual monotone, and he finishes shedding off his jacket before he turns towards the sound of quickly approaching footsteps.
What he sees makes him pause.
“What the fuck.” he says, involuntarily.
Kitty looks… like Kitty. But also very different.
He is wearing a familiar-looking old pilot’s jacket. Specter will unpack that later. The shirt he has underneath has the printed, paint-splattered logo of some rock band, one Specter has seen him wear before, “borrowed” from Edge.
His long hair that used to fall past his hips now barely reached his shoulders.
Lastly – his leg. Kitty’s body is an expensive droid’s body. It’s otherwise unblemished, though all his clothes used to keep one of his legs hidden to avoid questions about the cracks that ran along it, so obviously glued and soldered back together from when he was first “recovered”. But now that same leg is exposed, cracks and all, bandages wrapped around the thigh. Which makes no sense. He doesn’t bleed-
“What happened?” Specter asks. Kitty is just about to cling to his mech arm, but he moves faster, grabbing on to Kitty’s wrist to pull him closer, looking for any other signs of harm.
Kitty blinks in surprise, keeping still as he’s looked all over. “Well, um, we ran into some trouble-”
Edge is also talking – “Hey, man, chill-”
Right. This isn’t just Kitty. Before Specter left for the job, Kitty was excitedly talking about going with Edge to some concert or whatever. He said he’ll probably stay over the man’s place after. This isn’t the first time the two had gone out like this, and Kitty always made sure to come back whenever he had chores to do, specially meticulous about his window garden. Edge himself had always kept Kitty safe and comfortable, so Specter never had any reason to intervene.
Until now. Until this.
He turns towards his brother, voice low, glare sharp as he repeats, “Trouble?”
“Don’t take it out on Kitts.” Edge says, calm, composed. Like he has already practiced saying this. “This was on me.”
“B-Boss-” Kitty starts, voice small, almost scared. “Spec…?”
Specter takes a deep breath and schools his expression. He doesn’t like that tone, not from Kitty. It reminds him of their early days, and they’ve worked hard to move past that.
Gently, he lets Kitty go. “Go… water your plants. Wake Bug up. I have to talk to my brother.”
Kitty gingerly steps aside, and he looks worried as Specter walks past him, grabs Edge by the collar-
“Don’t worry! We’ll be fine!” Specter hears Edge reassure Kitty, even as he roughly hauls his younger brother off with him out the door.
As soon as Kitty is out of earshot, Specter lets him go and snarls. “What the fuck is this, Sky?”
It just came out, at that moment. The name he used to call his brother by, before their worlds fell apart.
The man looks at him, mouth open – whatever his supposed defense was lost for a moment as the shock of hearing the name settles in. If he’s been living a life anywhere close to his brother’s, it must have been a long long time since he’s been called the name that he was born with.
Lily is right – it’s fucking crazy they’ve been calling each other call names, code names, all this time.
“Right.” Edge – Sky – his brother, clears his throat, brings the mask back up. “You gotta chill with Kitty. That was all me. You know we were going to a concert. That went well, I swear. He had fun. But then we went to other stops after, and- Well. We stumbled across a few folks I had some deals with in the past-”
Specter huffs in disbelief.
“They weren’t very happy with me, y’know, so… they did some violence about it…” the man shrugs, like this is a normal occurence. “This really was on me. I got careless, should’ve avoided the place altogether. They were after me. Kitty just happened to be there. I got him out as soon as I could. We stayed in a safehouse after. I tipped off Sep, so Kitty took some days off. We only went out so I can take him home when I was sure you’re back-”
And it’s only now, as Specter is calming down slightly to listen, that he’s noticing his brother’s state as well. There’s a healing cut by one of his eyebrows, and a bruise beside his lips. There’s bandages wrapped around his bicep.
“Are you… alright?” Specter asks, despite a conscious effort to not care.
“I’m fine.” Edge says, brushing the question off, too busy explaining. “Look, Kitty’s hair was a casualty in the heat of the moment, and I asked him if he wants implants to restore them to original, I’ll cover it, no problem – but he said he likes it like this, shorter. So I just followed his lead there, I swear. His leg got hit, but it’s surface damage, and I’ve already looked into fixing that and the supplies are on the way to Sep’s now. He’ll know what to do, just bring Kitty to him like usual. And I made sure he’s fine, like his-”
“Alright, alright- I got it.” Specter cuts him off, before he can start on a long drawn out diagnostic of Kitty’s entire state. Kitty looked fine, for someone who supposedly ran into trouble. “You said this thing is about you. Your old job. You sure Kitty’s not in trouble with them?”
“He isn’t.” Edge shakes his head. For once, he looks dead serious. “And I’ll fix that too. That’s why I’m dropping him off. I’ll be off-grid for a bit. This is a lose end from an old job. I’ll tie it up-”
“You’re leaving.” Specter frowns. “Again. You’re disappearing again for how fucking long-”
“I’ll be back, geez.” Edge rolls his eyes, letting out an almost amused laugh. “Like, give me a month, tops.”
“Oh.”
Edge grins, teasing. “What, will you miss me, Ash?”
“No. Fuck you.” He scoffs, turning his back to him, ready to go back inside now. “It’s just-… Kitty-… Kitty likes you, for some reason. Say goodbye properly and come back, no excuses. I know you think you’re some fun, funny guy but you don’t get play around about him like this.”
“O-Oh.” Edge nods, perhaps not expecting that calm, that… straight honesty. “Yeah, I will. For sure.”
Specter would admit that when they were younger, he had imagined giving this talk to any potential partner of his brother’s. He never would have known that he’d be giving it to his brother…
Whatever.
Specter doesn’t say anything more to him. He only moves to open the door to go back inside.
“So, uh, are you back with Lil again?”
He pauses. How does the little shit even-… Whatever. He’ll probably say it’s a trade secret, like Lily does. Specter takes a breath, and that keeps him calm enough. “No. We were on a job. She says hi.”
“Huh.” There’s a light, curious note in there. “Okay.” is all his brother says, nonchalant.
Again, Specter doesn’t look back, and simply expects him to follow.
“Boss!” Kitty dumps the watering can in the window garden and darts towards them as soon as they’re back inside the apartment. As usual, Bug trails after him. He clutches at Specter’s sleeve. “Please don’t kill E, I really really like him! He’s my-”
“I know.” Specter says, making an effort to sound calm, neutral. He lays a hand on Kitty’s shoulder to reassure him. “He’s not dead. But you gotta say goodbye now.”
“What?” Kitty blinks, then turns towards Edge, lingering just a few steps away. “You’re leaving? I was hoping we could all have dinner together now that Spec is back-”
“Nah… Sorry, baby.” Edge smiles an apologetic smile, as Kitty lets go of Specter to walk towards him instead. “I gotta get going now if I want to catch the next trip off-planet.”
“Off-planet-…?” Kitty frowns, this time clinging onto Edge’s jacket, much less careful than he does with Specter. “You’re going away?”
“For my safety, and yours.” Edge explains softly, bringing his hands up to cup Kitty’s cheeks. He leans down slightly so he can look into the other’s eyes. “There’s just some things I need to do. So try not to go to my place, any of my places, until I say so…”
Specter watches them for a second before he turns away and walks off, towards the working table where he can pretend to be busy.
He keeps an ear out, and he does hear Kitty’s soft, withering voice. “But-… How long-…?”
“Not long.” Edge assures him, voice firm and full of promise. Specter never would have thought he would hear him sound so earnest again. “Hey… When I get back, we can go out again. Anywhere we want. No one to crash our date, okay?”
“I… I guess…” Kitty sounds in the verge of tears. It takes all of Specter not to turn and kick his brother out on the spot.
“And I’ll bring you a souvenir. What do you want? I’ll get you anything.” Edge sounds lighter now, an attempt to make the other laugh. His eyes find Bug hovering nearby, always close to Kitty. “D’you want another Bug? A yellow Bug?”
Points for knowing Kitty’s favorite color, Specter thinks. But there’s not enough points that would make this fully okay.
The offer makes Kitty let out a shaky laugh, at least. “No… Just come back, please.” he says, resigned. His voice is slightly muffled. Specter can just assume he’s buried his face into the other’s shirt. “Are you still my boyfriend while you’re away?”
Specter pauses. That’s a new development. But he should have seen that coming. He’d already thought of it, anyway. He just couldn’t quite think of how to deal with it.
“Am I-… Yeah, duh? ‘Course I am.” Edge answers just as easily as he answers any other question. He sounds less like Edge the hacker, the thief, the liar – and more like Sky the boy, the engineer, the cook. Ash’s – not Specter’s – younger brother.
Specter turns to finally look at them, only to see Edge running his hand through the other’s newly-short hair, his other holding him close by his waist. Kitty stubbornly latches around his neck.
“I know it sucks. I’ll miss you real bad.” he continues soothingly. Kitty’s answer is an inaudible noise muffled into the other’s shoulder. Edge chuckles. “C’mon, gimme my good luck kiss now, yeah?”
Kitty nods, and finally lets go, standing flat on his feet instead of on tip-toes. Edge presses a kiss to the top of his head, then to his cheek, and finally a soft one to his lips. Kitty kisses back shyly, but has to stop himself from chasing after Edge’s lips when the man pulls away.
It is unbelievably sweet. Specter looks down at the floor to wait for it to be over.
Next thing Specter knew, Kitty is rushing past him and disappearing into his room – not quite slamming the door, but sliding it hastily closed behind him.
He looks up, only to see his younger brother sighing, smiling guiltily.
Specter doesn’t say anything, just meets his eyes – blue like the sky he was named after – and looks expectantly.
“Well, then.” his younger brother says. “Good seein’ you, boss.” He does a mocking salute, before stuffing his hands into his pockets.
He shows himself out.
Bug lands on Specter’s shoulder. Kitty must have forgotten to wait for him before locking up.
Specter finally lets out his own sigh. “Hi, Bug.”
Bug trills happily, then greets back. “Hi, Spec!”
At least someone in this house is still happy.
This is not quite the homecoming Specter expected, but it’s the one he has to live with.
After a while, when he thinks he had probably waited a decent amount of time, he knocks on Kitty’s door.
“Kit,” he calls, making sure he doesn’t sound angry or impatient. “I’m going out for a bit to grab some food. Don’t worry, I’ll be back quick.”
He only has to wait for a second, before he hears shuffling, and then the room is sliding open again.
Kitty is blinking up at him, brows furrowed, concerned. He hasn’t quite been crying, but he still looks upset, and a bit disoriented, so its takes him a while to work out what he wants to say.
“W-What? No, you just-… I can do it. I’ll cook! Can you wait a bit? I’ll try to be really fast-”
“It’s fine. You look like you’ve had a long day, so-”
“-and you just finished a job! Let me cook. I’ll cook. I’ll take care of it.” he insists, and Specter couldn’t do much besides watch as Kitty hurries towards the kitchen and starts grabbing stuff. “We don’t have a lot right now, I should buy more ingredients soon… But I can make something! It’ll be good!”
“Sure…” Specter sighs. “Don’t rush. I’m not that hungry.”
“Yeah, okay…” is all he gets in reply, as Kitty is already busy, focused on a task.
Specter doesn’t want to hover, and never really knows himself to be someone who hovers. So he pretends to be busy for a few moments more. He showers, changes, and goes through messages he really didn’t intend to go through until tomorrow. He tries to stay out of Kitty’s way as much as he could, only coming back to the dining table when Kitty calls out that food is ready.
He eats, and the food is good – and it only reminds him of who taught Kitty how to cook in the first place-
He looks towards Kitty then, who had sat down not across him but on a different side of the table. He doesn’t eat, but he always liked to sit down with Spec during dinner. This time, he has his elbows on the table, and is resting his head on his hands, quiet, staring off to the distance. Behind him, his tail idly swings left and right for Bug to fly around and follow, but he has no real cheer to spare for the little bot.
Alright. Specter is not having this.
“Kit,” he calls. Kitty is slow to turn to him, and he waits for the droid to blink before he asks, “Are you alright?”
Kitty nods dutifully. “Yeah… Don’t worry, boss, I said I didn’t really want to have long hair back, it was so much hair anyway… And my leg still works, and I don’t think there’s really any other damage anywhere-”
Specter shakes his head, and stops him before he can keep rambling. “It’s not-… I can see you’re good, physically. But… I know you’re upset.”
Kitty pauses, then looks down at the table. “M-Maybe, a bit… But I understand…” He sighs miserably. “It’s just… me and E-… we were just having so much fun and then he had to leave, and I will miss him.”
“He said he’ll be back.”
Kitty looks up at him then, tilting his head. “You trust him now? You don’t hate him anymore?”
“No, he’s a little shit.” Specter says, then shrugs. “But I grew up with him and I can see he does care about you, so he should be back like he said he would. If he doesn’t, I’ll kill him.”
Finally, Kitty laughs, just a bit, sheepish. It took him a while to understand that people saying Spec will ‘kill someone’ for him means Spec cares about him, but now he’s grown to appreciate it. Now they can laugh about it.
“Thanks, Spec.” He smiles now, eyes brighter. “I’ll be fine. I can wait! And we can still message!”
“Sure.” Specter shrugs. The tail that Bug is chasing around is swinging quicker now, more cheerful.
“Ah!” Kitty says then, sitting straighter, eyes wide and worried. “Spec! Your arm…! I haven’t asked you at all about the job-… You’re hurt!”
Specter looks down at his flesh arm. It’s bandaged – not Lily’s neat meticulous work anymore since he’s had to undo it so he can shower, and now it looks… fine, but a bit of a mess as he did it himself. There’s just a bit of blood showing through it. “Uh. No, I’m okay-”
“Both of your arms, too!” Kitty stands up. “Ahhhh~ I’ll get the tools!”
Really, Specter can call this fussing and hovering – both of which he doesn’t like. Kitty also might be focusing too much on him to distract himself. But Specter would be lying if he said he didn’t prefer this Kitty – this forward, confident Kitty who isn’t afraid of him anymore, who doesn’t hesitate to talk to him, to approach him. He’s come so far.
So Specter finishes his meal and lets Kitty fuss and hover. The plates are taken away in favor of the first-aid and the tool kit. Bug is directed to hang out in the garden to avoid being a distraction.
Kitty does his flesh arm first, undoing the bandages so he can re-wrap it properly. He didn’t have any experience with this before in his previous life, he’d told Specter, and only learned the skill from him. His work is still good, better than Specter’s who had to do this on himself with one arm.
Then he gets to the mech arm. Specter settles it across the table so Kitty can do immediate repairs and tune it up. Anything more complicated though, would have to be done by Sep.
Whenever they’re positioned like this, it’s always less of a strain to look at Kitty’s face up close, than at his hands doing work on the arm. So that’s what Specter does, taking in Kitty’s serious, focused expression.
“Hey, Kit?” he says – soft this time, careful not to startle the delicate work happening. “That jacket you were wearing… Did Edge tell you where it’s from?”
Kitty hums, a bit distracted, but managing to point his focus back on his tasks. “Mm… It was your dad’s. He was a pilot.” Kitty turns to him shortly, thoughtfully. “He gave it to you. Then you gave it to E. He said you probably wouldn’t mind him giving it away if… it’s to me…? Is… Is that really okay?”
Specter chuckles despite himself. He hates that even after all this time, his brother knows him well enough. Specter had thought that jacket has been lost in between all the troubled reunions and goodbyes between him and his brother, specially when he didn’t find it among the other stuff in storage. It turns out it had been kept safe and in good condition after all.
And now it’s Kitty’s. It feels right that it is.
“It’s okay.” Specter says, allowing the smallest of smiles in his lips when Kitty looks up at him – so close, this close- “Do you like it?”
“Mm-hm. It’s super comfy. And it kept me toasty!” Kitty grins. “E said it’s now a boyfriend jacket.”
Specter rolls his eyes. “You do actually like that guy, huh.”
“Yeah.” Kitty says, so easy and sure. Specter wonders when exactly he learned to be so sure of people. “He’s sweet to me. I like that.” He seems to think about something then, pausing for a second before he blinks up at Specter. “Did you have someone like that? Someone sweet?”
Specter raises an eyebrow. Kitty had never really asked him much about people from his past before. Only once, the first time Specter made it clear that it will only be the two of them in the apartment, when he was telling Kitty he’s free to stay if he wanted, as long as he wanted. Kitty simply didn’t ask him questions like this, content to meet people in Specter’s current life whenever Specter introduced him to them. Sep, Rina, Granny, the social workers at the orphanage, the kids, even Mr. Cabot… Kitty had met all of them tagging along in Specter’s daily life, and he hadn’t asked about other people otherwise.
“I did.” he says, finally. He watches Kitty’s reaction, and all he gets is more curiosity. “It didn’t work out the way she and I imagined… but it was still good. She’s a friend now.”
Kitty seems to think about it, before asking, “Is it Miss Rina?”
Specter chuckles, and shakes his head.
Kitty waits for another second longer, perhaps hoping he would give a bit more, but Specter turns his gaze away now, pretending to be interested on the repairs going on in his arm instead.
“Thats nice.” Kitty says finally, also going back to the repairs. “Having someone is nice.”
“It is.” Specter agrees quietly. He glances at Kitty as he asks. “Is this… very important… for you? Having someone?”
“Yeah! Oh. Well, not like-…” Kitty purses his lips as he ponders the new question. “Hm… It’s not like I didn’t have someone, but you’re not- Um.”
“Me.” Specter blinks, then narrows his eyes slightly. “Kit, I hope this isn’t-”
He stops himself for a second, considering, grasping at how he could say this. He’s out of practice, but at this moment he feels slightly… braver. More human. Maybe it’s Lily, maybe it’s Sky – both reminding him of his vulnerabilities. But either way, he feels like he can get this out, right now.
“I just noticed. That… you tend to… spend time with other people. It’s fine. But sometimes they’re not exactly… the safest people to be with. They might take you places where I can’t go to, to protect you. I just want to be sure that… you actually want to be with them, on your own. Not just because I won’t-”
He stops for a moment as Kitty slumps down, resting on his mech arm laid out on the table. When Kitty just looks up at him, listening to his… attempt, he pushes on.
“Maybe I don’t give you the kind of attention you’d want, and- I don’t want you to put yourself in danger just to look for it… elsewhere. I-… Do you understand? I know I’m terrible at talking about this-”
“I think…?” Kitty sighs, comfortable against Specter’s arm. “I’ll try to be more careful… I don’t want you to worry-”
Specter shakes his head. “No, I just… I know there’s things I… don’t do…”
“I don’t need all those things. I love you already.” Kitty says, plain, simple – true. “With or without the things.”
What was it that Lily said? “That can work. We made that work.”
…and as always, she’s right.
Specter looks back at him. “You… do. Do you mean-…?”
“I just don’t know that part, is the thing.” Kitty shrugs, then pouts, like he’s trying to explain something confusing even to him. “I just love you? I don’t know what kind, but I know I do. It’s important for me to have someone because you’re my someone. But I really like Edge too. He just-… It’s different. But still good. Not like you’re bad. Both’s good! Different good- I mean, good… in… different ways? Ahhh~ I will have a headache!”
Kitty doesn’t get headaches, but Specter lets him whine about it anyway. He chuckles, and lets his shoulders relax as he nods, ending Kitty’s suffering.
“Alright, alright… I got it. He’s boyfriend and I’m boss.”
“No, you’re Spec! Just Spec. Mostly.” Kitty argues. “It is boss when you’re grumpy, thought.”
Without even really thinking about it, Specter says, “It’s Ash.”
“Huh?”
“That’s my name. My actual one.” he continues. “Before I was-… this.”
Kitty sits back up, his eyes wide and shining, surprised but pleased. “Ash?”
Oh. That sounds nice, Specter thinks.
Kitty leans in excitedly. “It’s a good name! I can call you that?”
Specter nods. “Sure. Sometimes. Just between us. Spec’s still safer when we’re out there.”
“Okay. Ash.” Kitty says, smile turning into a grin. “It is nice! Ash… Ash, Ash-”
Specter coughs. He knows there’s a faint blush to his cheeks as he turns away. “Alright, don’t make me regret telling you now.”
Kitty laughs then beams. “Okay, Boss Ash!”
He simply lifts a shoulder and gives Kitty a pointed look towards his arm. Kitty gasps, then hurries to go back to his task, fussing over the prosthetic.
Specter watches Kitty work again.
“I still really like Spec, though.” he mumbles absently. “Spec is super cool… Hmm…”
Alone together, in their home like this, Specter couldn’t help but miss that little bubble they had, during Kitty’s first days with him, when they were just starting to build a connection, establishing a promise of safety. When they’d spend the day together, just the two of them, learning how to be themselves with the other.
But Specter does know that that world is too small for them, and Kitty’s smile is always a little brighter when he’s out there, with others, with the rest of the world.
He remembers Lily’s words from last night then.
There are many things that Specter doesn’t do… Some of them he never really did at all. Some of them he used to do, but couldn’t anymore, after everything that had happened, that was done to him.
But he always can, with some effort, allow himself to feel.
Kitty sits back now, tools in hand. “Alright, done! Well, everything looks okay… but maybe have Mr. Sep look at it, too? But the lights are back on! That’s always the way to know, he said…”
The lights sure are back on, Specter would agree, as he checks his arm, flexing it for good measure to test.
“Thanks.” he says, eyes on Kitty, who is starting to put the tools back in the kit now. “Your hair. You like it?”
Kitty looks at him with an easy smile. “Yeah! I feel really light… I’m still getting used to it though.”
He reaches a hand out, his flesh one, knuckles brushing against the side of Kitty’s cat ear and down to the tips of his hair now only ending at his shoulders. It stops too short, he thinks. He’ll have to get used to it, too.
“It looks good.” he says.
Kitty blinks and shyly laughs, flattered. His cheeks are pink. “Thank you…”
However, Specter couldn’t help the barely-there sigh, the small furrow in his brows as he glances away and mumbles under his breath, “Everyone is getting their hair cut these days…”
“What was that?” Kitty asks, tilting his head.
“Nothing.” Specter says, waving it off as he leans back, crossing his arms across his chest. “Anyway. I bet you’ll get bored soon, waiting while your boyfriend is off cleaning up his mess?”
“Well…” Kitty purses his lips, thinking. “I still have work at the bar…?”
“I’ll tell Sep you’ll be off for a while longer. Do you want to pick our next job?”
Kitty drops the tools on the kit and shifts so he can fully face Specter. “Really?” he asks, eyes wide in excited surprise. “I can pick?”
Specter nods, and passes him his comms unit, with the list of open jobs on display. “Choose something we can make a trip of.”
“A trip!” Kitty practically bounces on his chair. “What about-… You don’t have to take other jobs?”
“I can take it easy for a bit.” Specter shrugs, watching as Kitty starts tapping and swiping at the projections now hovering over the table. “This last one paid really well.”
“Ah…” Kitty only nods, now very distracted. “Bug!” he calls then. “Bug, we’re going on a trip!”
Bug zooms towards them in its wobbly way, answering in the way he always answers – by repeating what was just said to him. “Kitty, we’re going on a trip!”
“You’re still not flying the ship, though.” Spec adds, just to temper expectations.
Kitty is all too happy to answer, “That’s okay! Right, Bug?”
Bug is also happy to agree to that. “Right, Kitty!”
‘Right, Spec.’ Specter echoes in his head as he stands and picks up the kits on the table to put them away, seeing as Kitty is now too distracted for that.
Specter might have been missing their time in their little bubble, and that’s why he’s doing this. Right now, Kitty is happy, smiling excitedly, and it’s just the two of them. A lot like how it was at the start. Plus Bug.
He is aware that Kitty has other people now, though, and that will not be something Specter keeps from him, even if Specter might sometimes keep the same from himself.
But he thinks this is okay, once in a while. He is one of Kitty’s people, anyway.
Tomorrow, they’ll go on a job. He’s letting Kitty pick, as long as it’s reasonable. Or maybe even if it isn’t.
It might be fun. At the very least, it will be interesting. Anything with Kitty always is.

Chapter Notes:
…and that is the end of the story! See next chapter for sketches and extras/notes. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹 But before that–
I rly didn’t know who would be interested in reading this fic at all. Most of my audience the past years have all been for fandom. So I wrote this with full self-indulgence. It’s just me! 😤✨
But as mentioned before in my socials and everywhere else – this piece is my “transition piece” for “practice” to get me in the condition to write original fic again after years of just writing fanfiction. And I did have a lot of fun with this one! I’ve forgotten how freeing writing your own lil imagination people are, lmaoooo
Anyways! If you’ve gotten to this point – thank you for reading!!! Drop a comment to lemme know what you think! (,,>﹏<,,)
(and ok u can go check out the doodles now haha)
Story End Notes:
